Wheeling Young Preservationist's Speak Easy

This month's Speak Easy series features local landscape architect, Gabe Hays. Mr. Hays has a wide array of history in landscape architecture. He has been involved in planning and designing experiences at some of the finest botanical gardens, arboretums, and private estates in the nation in over 12 states. In addition, he has been involved in the planning and design for scenic byways, streetscapes, historical sites, campuses, community parks, military family housing, and various residential projects. Mr. Hays owned and operated Hays Landscape Architecture for over 18 years until just recently the company became a part of the operations of Wallace-Pancher Group.

We look forward to hearing Mr. Hays discuss the concept of preservation in relation to cultural and historical landscapes. The Speak Easy series, like all of our happy hours, are free to participate in. Please join us August 31, from 6:00 until 7:30 at the third floor of River City, there will be a brief Q&A following Mr. Hays speech and then a more casual happy hour setting will follow downstairs.

Afternoon in Centre Market

This event will draw attention to the preservation success story that is Centre Market. Local businesses that participate will have decals in the windows of their shop, which will at the least be two hashtags; one national (#thisplacematters) and one local (#wheelove) both of which draw attention to historic structures and pertain to preservation. There will also be a QR code to find an online resource of both businesses participating, as well as the histories of their respective buildings. Through that online resource we will also have pamphlets available that include the histories. Tours will be offered of several buildings, both of individual buildings as well as the Centre Market itself. Casa Di Vino will be hosting a wine tasting that would take place in the early afternoon.
